The BCLAS Ethical Committees Platform organizes a workshop day for members of the Ethical Committees on Animal Experiments (ECs) on September 20, 2022 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University in Merelbeke.

During the workshop two major topics will be discussed:

  • prospective severity assessment
  • recommendations proposed by the Technopolis Group on the development of an evaluation tool for the functioning of the Flemish ECs.

This evaluation tool was commissioned by the Animal Welfare Department of the Flemish government.

Target audience are the members of ECs.  The total number of participants is limited to 60 whereby we strive for a representative participation from all Belgian ECs.(up to 2 participants per EC). Additional subscriptions from the same EC will be placed on a waiting list and will be accepted only when the total number is not reached.

To make the workshops sufficiently interactive, there will be two parallel thematic blocks “Severity” and “Technopolis Recommendations ECs”, with the groups changing thematic blocks after the lunch break.  The working language of this workshop is English.

The participation in this day is free of charge. Lunch is possible in the student restaurant of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at your own expense.

This activity is accredited as continuing education in Lab Animal Science (Flanders).
